Gone this morning

I've got a dental appointment this morning at the VA.

They'll be grinding down a molar and fitting me with a temporary cap (yeah, that's right, the day before Thanksgiving. Yep), and I'll have to wait a couple of weeks for a gold crown to be made. At the moment it looks as if I don't need a root canal, so you know, that's good.

Despite the timing, I'm happy to have this done. This tooth has been bothering me for a couple years now. I got hit in the side of the face a while back and the impact knocked out the filling in an upper tooth and broke this one in half. I've had it 'fixed' three times now. A piece broke off a couple of months back. The military dentists kept telling me I needed a crown, but they wouldn't actually do it. When I mentioned this to the VA, they didn't screw around. I've already had the casts made, today they'll grind the broken tooth down and fit the temp cap.

I just wish tomorrow wasn't Thanksgiving. Though I guess I should be grateful that I'm finally going to get this fixed.

You're on your own for a couple of hours.

  3. Good luck with the crown. I tried that a couple months ago on one of my molars. Alas, I had to have it pulled, since the break went below the gum line. I'm going to a surgeon in January to have an implant done. That should be fun.

    Happy Thanksgiving, all!

  4. Ugh. Don't expect much from me until my face thaws out - and probably not much after that for a while, unless you'd all like me to post a picture of drool and gaze. Ugh, again.

But, hey, at least it's finally getting fixed - so, you know, no bitching from this end. And the doc said I should be able to eat turkey tomorrow without any problems, so it's all good. I've got to have the temp in until the middle of January, since the permanent gold crown will take that long for fabrication.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you as well. I'll be up early making stuffing and putting the bird in the oven. Going to try a new cookie recipe too - chocolate Expresso, hmmmmmm. We'll have a friend over for dinner, her husband is out in the wilds of Alaska with a mining company, and we couldn't stand the thought of her being alone for the holiday.

Anyway, I'm going to veg out on the couch for a while. Later I'll get a couple of posts up on Deep Thunder. Things are going to get interesting over there very, very soon.

Again, happy turkey day to you and yours. See you in a while. /Jim
