I think I’m Coming Down With Something

Because I’m dead tired again tonight, and have been all day.

Seriously, as I mentioned on Twitter earlier in the day, I feel like my local gravity field has increased by at least 10%.

Throat is a little scratchy and I feel like crap.

I intended to tell you all why setting a date for exiting Afghanistan is sound military strategy that works to our advantage and why the angry Republican members of Congress and the conservative pundits (none of which, Congress Critters or Blathering Heads, know a fucking thing about military strategy) are talking out their collective asses (but hey, why should that stop them, I mean wouldn’t you follow Rush into battle? Doh!).

But my brain is on the fritz tonight (and unlike the aforementioned buffoons, I know not to write when my brain is fritzy).

Instead I spent the night in the shop turning a large walnut bowl.  I have a commission for three of these, and the first one is now complete – and it is fantastic.

I’ll put up pictures of it tomorrow or the next day along with my take on why setting a date for Afghan exit is a good thing.

Now bed.

If your brain is too fritzy to write, why do you think turning is safe?

What if you hit a knot or something? fast spinning stuff - blood, amputation, yuck. Too many first aid movies?

    Get well soon.

  3. Let me start you off.

"You should always listen to the generals and give them everything they want."

General John Shalikashvili, anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

"You should never set a time limit on military engagements."

Feb. 7, 2003, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to U.S. troops in Aviano, Italy: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months." (USA Today, http://www.usatoday.com/educate/war28-article.htm)

  4. Hey, I wasn't delirious or hallucinating or anything - I was just tired and feeling vaguely blah. Turning is a Zen-like exercise, writing requires that I use higher brain function.

And Steve, spot on. Rumsfield and the Shalikashvilli incident will lead off tonight's post.

  5. You're not allowed to get sick. I need my dancing monkey to keep me amused and entertained.

  6. Headed home from the office yesterday feeling a little out of it and about midway through the grocery store the migraine 2x4 hit. Grocery store smells and the live Christmas trees out front didn't help, nor did the incense infused cab I took to get the groceries home.

Head pain down to a dull roar this morning, drugs after my coffee may chase it off. Probably weather triggered, we're having weird rapidly fluctuating pressure readings, some strange weather bounces and our first real cold snap of the season. Migraine was predictable and cold aggrevated arthritis joints are screaming today.

Realized this morning I don't really remember what I did the last couple hours I was at work yesterday...
