The New Header

It’s some pens what I made.

Pens4

And they’re artistically arranged.

  1. And they're pretty. And the ones with the proper nibs write real nice.

  2. Oh yeah, you can write with them too

  3. Jim,

It may be too late to completely erase your condition, since you've already, presumably, taken all of those nasty childhood vaccinations. But Jenny McCarthy says it isn't too late for you. Chelation Therapy can reverse many of your symptoms. I'm certain we'll see a marked improvement in your arrangements once you're no longer in the thrall of your disease.

    Good luck to you.

::Oh, you said arrrrrtistically? never mind.::

  4. Oooooooooooooh!

Not much more to say than that...

  5. Is it wrong that I'm drooling over writing implements? Because those are some seriously gorgeous pens, Jim.

    :p~

  6. "Aarrrrrtistically inclined," Nathan? You mean like he wants to shiver his timbers and give them the old heave-ho and have a parrot and a wooden leg and an eyepatch and a hook for a hand and make them walk the plank, mateys or he'll make them go to the locker room with the little English dude who was in The Monkees? (I never understood that last part, either.)

  7. Lovely. Just lovely.

    You've outdone yourself yet again!

  8. Eric, I would be happy to turn you a pegleg. Eye-patch sold separately

  9. Damn...guess my Jenny McCarthy reference was a little too obscure.

    Auuuuuuuuu.

(Or it's entirely possible that it just wasn't all that amusing, but I choose to believe you dolts just didn't get it.)

  10. Jim, I would like to buy some (of course - you know every time you post something from the lathe I come sniffing around with my checkbook out).

If that's possible, please put me down for one like the third one from the left and the 12th one from the left, both ball point, and then three more ball point with lots of woodgrain (turner's choice). No hurry - I'm thinking stocking stuffers.

Between you, Karl and Beastly, my Xmas shopping practically completes itself...

  11. Niiiice!

Hey, if you're ripping your own blanks, I'll have to send you the last bits of redwood that I have laying around. Minimum length for the long part about 4"?

hm - maybe i need to learn how to write so's I can use one of them there pen thingies...

  12. Pen Geek! Man you are digressing from massive bowls and artistic birdhouses and segmented pieces to this???? ok so you only have a couple hours a week to turn but it's time to get back to the log pile!

  13. Beastly's just jealous.

Jealous because I took those pictures with my NIKON!

  14. ::sits back to await inevitable "King of Suck" commentary::

  15. Karl, I've been doing both, buying pen blanks and ripping some for stock that I have lying around.

Speaking of rip sawing, I spent last evening cleaning saw blades. Didn't have any pitch remover so I used Simple Green. Wow. That stuff is like magic, to hell with pitch remover.

Simple Green, is there nothing it can't do?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Simple Green can clean off pitch? I wonder if it'll clean chasing pitch off my jewelry pieces...

Those pens are fabulous! One of these days I should see if you'd be interested in trading some of your stuff for some of my stuff (major work here- http://www.facebook.com/SmithingChick#!/album.php?aid=196871&id=743891756
    Production work here- http://www.facebook.com/SmithingChick#!/album.php?aid=200641&id=743891756 )

Reflos- what these teabagging loons will hopefully be doing after election day

  17. Sharon,

I looked at your site. Yeah, we'll definitely have to work a trade.

I suspect that Simple Green will clean chasing pitch, especially if you use it in an ultrasonic cleaner tank.

  18. A friend showed me a pen his father turned the other day, it was turned from elk antler, it was really quite nice, every tried it?

    ReplyDelete
  19. No. I've seen it done, but I've never turned antler myself. I suppose I'll have to try it sooner or later
