Here, Have A Sled Dog

Long weekend.

We spent it in the Interior of Alaska.

We stopped by Skunk Place Kennels to visit our friends, famed Iditarod mushers Aliy Zirkle and Allen Moore. You can learn more about them and the Iditarod Sled Dog race here.  The Iditarod, the last truly great race, takes place in the dead of the Alaskan winter and runs a thousand miles from Anchorage to Nome.

More later.

Must go do things that make money now.

  4. Okay so I'm new here having found you via the treasures of Drachenwald blog, and yes I read the rules but I don't tend to troll ( much). :) and I enjoyed everything I read so far.

My parents used to have to travel by dogsled when they lived in Northern Canada, I remember lots of stories about the adventures they had.

    Beautiful picture, beautiful dog.

    cheers

  5. Nice photo. I adopted a sled dog that ran the Iditarod a couple of years ago. Wonderful dog. Poor guy isn't too sure about Seattle traffic, though.

  6. What is the word on Lance Mackey and the Iditarod? Last I heard, there was something about his using medical marijuana and disqualification. If anyone EVER deserved to use medical marijuana - it's that guy - and I don't know why that would matter. It's not like taking steroids. Anyway - just curious as to what the word was in Alaska about that. Love your blog!!
