Dead in Denver

See, the other day I did the Hunter S. Thompson parody. I always consider it a win, when I manage to amuse myself. But see, for various reasons which may or may not be obvious depending on your degree of fandom, I can't think of Thompson without thinking of Warren Zevon. Because really, if for no other reason than Zevon is the perfect accompaniment to Thompson's writing. And then I've been dealing with some serious batshit crazies for the last couple of days - which will get explained sooner or later. It's just taking longer than I planned on because I thought it would be amusing, and amusing batshit crazy is is fun to Write about - instead in this case batshit crazy turned out to be real mental illness and not at all funny. Just sad and pathetic. Either way, sad or amusing, batshit crazy reminds me of Zevon. So Zevon has been on my mind. I thought he was a hell of a talent and I really miss that guy. Now, there's damned few song by Warren Zevon that I don't absolutely love, but this one is far and away my favorite. No matter how shitty of mood I'm in, Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead always puts me right. ShopKat likes it too. We've been blasting through my Zevon library for the last two hours. We both may go deaf, but we're having fun. And the Thompson in this video, well that's just a bonus:

  1. Warren Zevon was one of the great original people, and enthusiastic. I suppose the same could be said of ol' Hunter S. (grin) That they can overlap in one moment of time, well, that's priceless.

I'm a partial to songs about Denver and the Rockies.

I'm also partial to Zevon songs.

  3. Hmm, batshit crazies and police reports. Those don't work all that well together. At least in my experience.
