Black Friday.

You know it's probably a damned good thing that Thanksgiving comes only once a year.

Otherwise I'd be the size of a house. I have no self control when it comes to Thanksgiving. I like everything, turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, my wife's sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, cookies. No matter how much I eat for dinner, I'm always hungry later and I like to eat the leftovers for the rest of the day.

And today, my favorite, cold turkey sandwiches with mayo, salt, and pepper! Woohoo!

As to the black Friday thing, yeah, screw that. We're not going anywhere today. Crowds make me twitchy in the best of times, today's bargain-crazed lunatics and long lines would make me outright insane. I'd be very likely to end up on a roof with a rifle and a big box of ammo - and nobody needs that. Me staying home is a public service, you can all thank me later.

Instead, I'm going to work out in the shop most of the day. I'm behind on the woodwork. So, today and tomorrow I'll be working on the lathe.

I'm not writing much this weekend. I need a day or two to think about a couple of things. I want the comments to help drive the story, but I don't want the comments to snake me off plot. I need to go back and tweak some of the stuff I've got written but not posted. Van's life is about to take a strange turn, and I don't want to screw that up. I think best when I'm turning on the lathe, so that's what I'll be doing. You'll all benefit, so you know, be patient.

Go have a turkey sandwich or something.

  1. I don't like leftovers, I hate crowds, and all my Christmas shopping is done.

So I'm going to put up the Christmas decorations today and finish up some household chores.

Oh, and be sulky and disappointed about not having the next Deep Thunder installment to read. Can't forget that.

I'm not really the patient type.

  2. Yeah, we'll be putting up the tree too.

Hang in there, Janiece, I'll see about putting up a Deep Thunder post later today.

  3. I'm just joking you. You know patience is not my virtue.

  4. Yet another thing we have in common. I'll only shop Black Friday if they allow me to take my machette. People who stand at the exits of escalators while they plan and organize their next commercial raid, which apparently involves cell phones and watch synchronization, as well as a satellite hook-up, just bug the crap outa me.

Now I just need to motivate my butt to go out into the wet, rake and decorate.

  5. Steve, what the hell is it with the idiots who stop directly in front of the exit? Either from the escalator or the building or some other choke point? I don't get it. They can't move left or right 3 damned feet, then they act annoyed when you try to get around them. My favorite is the ones who stop immediately outside the door to make a cell phone call, it should be legal to taser these people. More and more lately we've become internet shoppers.

And I've got to hang outside xmas lights today too - though I've had my raking done a month ago.

  6. At my house we call it Curmudgeon Day and don't set foot outside if there is any way to avoid it. It works for us, I hate the pushy crowds.
