He was a lot like your dad, and so was his dad. He was Air Force, a Tech Sgt. He ran the shops that outfitted the pilots, and one of the most outrageous ones was his best friend. When diagnosed with terminal cancer that probably would have killed him in a week or two, he shot himself in the head in our basement. That was eight years ago this month. I had to either move on or die, and I chose the former, but he was the love of my life so you know how that goes. I made a contribution. Keep on.lindadellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15798816395160632329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8243351006478134285.post-27627384729568893022017-11-13T10:08:06.588-06:002017-11-13T10:08:06.588-06:00Jim, I knew your father and your mother as wonderf...Jim, I knew your father and your mother as wonderful gardeners and helpful neighbours there on Parmalee rd outside of Middleville which I also call Home! You could ride your bicycle to the farmstand and always expect the best the rich soil could bring forth, you bought it for a few $ and then rode home after a few minutes of wisdom from your father! And same when friday came around and The Middleville Farm Market opened up! Our Father and Mother was always there, rain or sunshine, they were always there. And your father, with a gentle smile on his face, knew to give out the best of advice to his customers and friends of which I was one of many, many...!
By chance I stumbled on to this old tribute to your father since you wrote it before I got hooked on your writing...and your tribute is as good as a tribute to a beloved father can be....Thank you.
Mikael P Henriksson Middleville MichiganMikael P Henrikssonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8243351006478134285.post-61049974427685678392017-04-09T18:41:09.052-05:002017-04-09T18:41:09.052-05:00Dear Jim, just found your blog through a friend fr...Dear Jim, just found your blog through a friend from the USA! Belatedly, I am sorry for your loss. While reading, I was astonished at the number of similarities to my dad. They would've been good friends had they known each other. My dad passed away from complications of COPD at the end of April this year. He was in Korea on an LSM and was a Jack of all Trades like your dad. He also had a very warped sense of humor and could butcher the English language (on purpose) like nobody's business. As for the physical problems, they were very similar - multiple surgeries for varied problem - but it never kept him down for long. I cried when reading this because you were almost writing about my dad, too. We buried him in a private cemetery with full military honors.
